7 Hints for a Healthy Holiday

We are about 7 weeks away from the end of the year (BREATHE)!!! Let’s finish this year enjoying the holiday festivities and being healthy at the same time – consider all or some of the following suggestions to make the rest of the year the best of the year:

★ Food – Plan to have at least 1 vegetarian or vegan option for your holiday meal. It can be as simple as a baked sweet potato or steamed green beans with olive oil drizzle over it. This is the time to indulge, but have at least one pure vegetable can allow us to save a little room and calories for a decadent dessert.

★ Beverages – Water will remain your main drink of choice – remember half of your body weight in ounces each day is your daily goal. But, it is the holiday season so a signature holiday cocktail and EANAB (equally attractive non-alcoholic beverage) are in order. A cranberry or apple cider based drink would be perfect for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

★ Exercise – Let’s face it, the Holidays can be stressful. To combat stress be sure to continue exercising throughout the season. Exercise can be you natural Prozac. Put your exercise classes on your calendar and stick to those commitments. Remember to “Huff and Puff before (and after) you Stuff”! There are many scheduled activities you can participate in to prepare you for feasting.

★ Adjustments – Maintaining your adjustment schedule will help you with the stress and strain of the Holidays. Be sure to make all of your scheduled adjustments and remember that chiropractic adjustments decreases pain, restores function, promotes tissue healing, and alters (improves) brain function. Schedule your adjustments today to avoid holiday office closures!

★ Gratitude – Having an attitude of gratitude can improve your overall happiness and self-satisfaction. Acknowledge what you are grateful for daily at the very least mentally, but ideally in written form so that you can reflect on your list and see the positivity in your life.

★ Friends & Family – Plan your friends and family “visits” and outings now to be able to enjoy each other’s company stress free. And don’t fret if you cannot be there in person to everyone – we live in a wonderful age where we can see each other without physically being in the same room. Just be sure to schedule the “visit”.

★ Charitable Acts – Another way to celebrate the Holidays is to give back to those who are less fortunate. Find what speaks to your heart to help others. In an effort to combat the cold we’re experiencing here in Colorado, we will collect gently used, clean coats for the homeless. Please drop off your coats at our office until Wednesday, November 27th and we will be sure to distribute the coats accordingly.
